The Mission of the PEI ADAPT Council is to help agri-entrepreneurs grow.
Objects and Purpose
a) To facilitate future development of PEI agriculture based businesses that are environmentally, socially and economically sustainable.
b) To take an entrepreneurial role in economic development by investing in agriculture based businesses and assisting organizations explore new ideas and opportunities. (As part of this new role, ADAPT may investigate sponsoring, as part of a consortium, a bio-resource commercialization Chair.)
c) With a continual focus on path finding and assisting organizations adapt to change, ADAPT will be a business catalyst that fosters innovation and new business opportunities in four product diversification sectors:
i New crops for use in the supply chain
ii Niche/specialty markets such as organics
iii Culinary and food use targets d. Potential non-food uses
iv To make strategic investments in collaboration with existing agencies (either PEI based and out of province agencies), that achieve a suitable return for the organization; in order to assist agriculture business people to further commercialize and expand.
v To provide provocative thinking and “think tank” services, which the new ADAPT could sponsor or take a facilitating role.
To work as a catalyst in the agriculture, agri-food, and agri-based products sectors with the intention of helping agri-entrepreneurs diversify and grow. Our financial and advisory resources are meant to help develop and support a thriving agricultural industry that is sustainable and diverse. Where possible the Council will collaborate with farmers, organizations, governments and/or entrepreneurs to seize opportunities to develop ideas, novel products and market opportunities.
