"Taste Our Island Award."

The PEI ADAPT Council is once again sponsoring the annual "Taste Our Island" Award. This award recognizes innovative chefs and restauranteurs that are supporting sustainable and regional food systems.

Around the World food helps define a region’s culture and our heritage. Like elsewhere, the renaissance of local or ‘slow food’ diets has emerged as a culinary trend for both visitors and residents of the Island.

We at the PEI ADAPT Council, applaud this movement and have developed an award to show our appreciation to those in the food service industry (chefs and restaurant owners) who make a special effort to bring PEI's distinctive flavours and unique harvest to their customers.

Please help us by nominating someone whose outstanding culinary talents you admire. Your nominee should be someone who has built effective relationships with farmers, wholesalers and distributors in order to help sustain a regional agricultural food system in new, innovative and effective ways.

Criteria for evaluating awards will be based upon:

1. How supportive the chef/restaurant has been in promoting a local, sustainable food system,
2. The percent of Island foods included on menus,
3. How creatively the local foods initiative is profiled,
4. How well the use of local foods is advertised and promoted to customers.

The winner will be awarded a full page feature article in PEI’s Tourism Guidebook, where the message will be communicated to over 100,000 readers. They will also be presented with a coveted, "Taste Our Island Award," display plate, handcrafted by Sabine Nuesch of Victoria’s Glass Studio, PEI.

Nominations must be received by August 22, 2008. Nominations may be made online or save this form and mail it to:
