Applicants Guide and Application for PEI ADAPT Funding

If you have a project which you feel can contribute to innovation and change in the agricultural industry and/or to rural development on Prince Edward Island, you may wish to submit an application for funding. Here are some basic guidelines which may help you save time and money in the process. Pre-proposal

While not required, applicants are invited to submit a brief (1-3 page) pre-proposal including a description explaining how your project meets the program criteria, the need to undertake the project, the benefits to the agricultural/rural community and the estimated funds requested. This process allows ADAPT to review your project idea and provide you with feedback before you apply. This will allow you to get feedback before you submit the formal application, which can save you time and the $50. application fee.

Application Review and Approval Criteria

Applicants must complete the PEI ADAPT Council Application Form. All applications must be accompanied by a $50. non-refundable application fee to offset processing costs. Proposals may be submitted on an on-going basis. Applicants should expect the review process to take up to eight (8) weeks.

Project proposals will be evaluated against the following criteria:

  1. the extent to which the proposal will assist primary and secondary agriculture to adapt to, and become more competitive, while strengthening the leadership and management of sustainable agricultural production,
  2. the degree to which the proposal benefits go beyond the applicant and into the PEI agricultural and agri-food economy,
  3. the extent to which the applicant is prepared to commit resources, and/or the amount of funding secured from outside sources and partnerships formed with other groups,
  4. the degree to which the project is innovative and well planned, with realistic costs and long-term quantifiable results,
  5. conformity to ACAAF Terms and Conditions and to existing federal and provincial legislation (i.e. NAFTA, GATT, interprovincial trade agreements) including federal and where applicable, provincial environmental requirements.

Eligible Applicants

Eligible applicants include individuals, commodity boards, farm organizations, agri-businesses, cooperatives, associations, rural communities and any combination of the above. Universities, research agencies, provincial and federal governments and their agencies, are not eligible as applicants but may apply as a partner on a project. Farmers applying for funding under the Environmental Program, must have completed The Environmental Farm Plan.

Any expenses incurred prior to submission of application is not eligible for ACAAF funding.
